Ella Kane is an aspiring printmaker who creates bold and narrative imagery that employs vibrant, contrasting colors. Kane’s work is largely influenced by a natural curiosity of the world around her. With each new project, she invites viewers to learn alongside her and develop a greater appreciation for all the Earth’s wonders. Kane seeks to denounce the longstanding history of human conquest and domination over the planet’s diverse ecosystems.
“As Homo sapiens, we selfishly call ourselves “masters” of the Earth — a corrupt ideology that I strive to uproot through the work that I create. My art emphasizes the beauty and resilience of the non-human world, and acknowledges that we are just one of several millions of different species, all sharing the same home and ultimately governed by the same set of natural laws… I believe that if we show respect to the environment and all other life on the planet, only then will we find true peace within ourselves.”
Determined to foster a more empathetic and equitable world, Kane shares inspirational stories from her personal experiences and simultaneously encourages others to tap into their own creative imaginations. Battleship linoleum is her favorite material for relief printmaking, although she also enjoys various other print processes as well. She explores combining different techniques together, for example, compositions that feature both relief and screen prints. Extremely self-driven and always in search of a challenge, Kane works with multiple, complex layers, and embraces the variability of printmaking, treating each iteration as an important step in her artistic practice.
